Composition of semiconductor fuse holder

Semiconductor fuse holder, also known as high breaking capacity fuse holder or high voltage fuse holder,

is specifically designed to protect semiconductor devices such as thyristors, IGBTs, diodes, etc. Due to its

need to withstand extremely high short-circuit currents and breaking capabilities, its composition and

structure are much more complex and robust than ordinary fuse holders.

The following are the main components and functions of a semiconductor fuse holder:

  1. Base
·Material: Usually made of high-strength, high insulation engineering plastics (such as nylon PA66, PET, PBT, etc.) or ceramics. Ceramic bases are particularly suitable for applications that require high resistance to arc and high temperatures.
    ·Function:
·Insulation and support: As the foundation of the entire structure, ensure good electrical insulation between each conductive component and the installation panel.
·Fixed: Provide screw holes or buckles for securely installing the fuse holder on the equipment base or guide rail.
  2. Load melt/contact system
This is the core part of the fuse holder, responsible for holding and conducting fuses. It usually consists of the following parts:
·Contact/clip: Usually made of copper alloys with high conductivity, high elasticity, and good wear resistance (such as brass, phosphor bronze, beryllium copper), the surface is often silver plated or tin plated to enhance conductivity and prevent oxidation.
·Function: Tightly clamp the caps at both ends of the fuse to provide a stable, low contact resistance electrical connection.
  3. Arc extinguishing hood/arc barrier
·Material: High strength ceramic or special arc resistant plastic.
    ·Function:
·Limiting arc: When the fuse breaks extremely high fault currents, it will generate strong arcs. The arc extinguishing hood restricts the arc in a closed or narrow space to prevent the arc from spreading to other components.
·Cooling arc: Ceramic materials can absorb arc heat, helping to cool and extinguish the arc.
·Ensure safety: prevent electric arcs and molten metal particles from spraying out, protect personnel and equipment safety.

·Forming an arc extinguishing chamber: Together with the base and arc extinguishing cover, it forms a complete arc extinguishing chamber.

·Interlocking function: Some high-end models come with an interlocking mechanism to ensure that the

power is cut off when the cover is opened, or that the cover cannot be opened when the power is not cut

off.

The semiconductor fuse holder is a precision electrical component that integrates high-strength

insulation structure, constant voltage contact system, efficient arc extinguishing device, safety interlock

mechanism, and status indication function. Every detail of its design is aimed at ensuring extremely low

contact resistance and low temperature rise during normal operation, while safely and reliably

extinguishing the arc when breaking extreme fault currents, effectively protecting valuable semiconductor

power devices.
